A Security Analyst Job Description

The job description of a security analyst is the same as that of a code breaker. However, analysts work behind the scenes in companies to prevent thefts or breaches of security.

 

A security analyst works closely with the management and security officers of a company. The security analyst provides insight to where security problems are occurring and how to correct them. It is important for the security analyst to work with the management in a partnership where the analyst can explain what is going on while the security officer works to stop the problem.

 

A security consultant must work well with the management to ensure that problems can be fixed. Management has many people who are not security personnel. The security consultant will work with these people to ensure that the consultant is working for the benefit of the company and not his own personal gain.

 

Security consultants spend a great deal of time in an office environment. They must be able to function well in a team environment, develop close relationships with others in the organization and have the ability to collaborate. Since most security consultants also are IT professionals, they need to know how to interact effectively with the people on the security team. The Security Analyst needs to be able to identify and use software that can help detect problems that occur. It is the analyst's responsibility to maintain a good working relationship with the security officers and management and work to resolve the problems that they create.

 

The data that security analysts have access to must be examined for security threats that are often found within companies. They must understand what resources are needed to detect and solve security issues. Security analysts also must have the ability to accurately share information so the solution can be disseminated and used effectively by those that need it.

 

There are many factors to consider when working in this position. A security analyst must be able to understand the security policies and procedures to provide the leadership needed to implement them. He or she also must have the ability to work in an atmosphere where he or she can be comfortable and confident with the people that are making decisions. Finally, the security analyst must have the ability to make strategic decisions and be able to execute them.

 

With the right skills and experience, a security analyst is in a good position to take on another role within the company. The security analyst can work as a consultant, with an understanding of how to work with other departments to bring together resources and implement solutions to protect the company. The analyst may also want to move into managing the security staff and working directly with the security officers to keep the peace.

 

The security analyst must be comfortable with new technology, which requires travel. If the security analyst does not like to travel, then the position may not be for him or her. The security analyst also needs to be able to take direction from others, both internally and externally. The ability to communicate effectively and find common ground with others is very important to the success of the security analyst.

 

Before the security analyst can be successful in this role, the company must have confidence in him or her. The executive management team will make the hiring decision, so the job is a high profile one. The CEO, CFO and other senior executives that will hire a security analyst need to see that the security analyst can handle the daily tasks and is equipped to make sound judgments.

 

The security analyst should also be prepared to present himself or herself to management in terms that the management will understand. The analyst must be well organized and able to have concise thoughts in a matter of minutes. He or she must be able to make presentations that move quickly and remain straight forward. The security analyst also needs to be able to work in a team environment and know how to manage his or her time.

 

The security analyst must also be highly motivated to work in a fast paced environment and understand the importance of time management and how to effectively allocate it. He or she must have the ability to be flexible and make the necessary changes in the schedule as needed. and also be self-motivated and able to work effectively with others in the security team.
